This is the tool I use.
It represents you, you and your life. It uses circles for humans and squares for corporations. But buckets for trusts and triangles for pass-through disregarded entities like LLCs.
What Each Symbol Means
Circles are YOU
Squares are CORPORATIONS
Buckets are TRUSTS
Triangles are pass-through LLCs
SUBHEADING
In the top right of the diagram, you are the circle. Inside that circle are six different types of assets:
- You have a piggy bank, which represents stock securities, property that can be moved. Basically, liquidity.
- You have a house is locked to the ground. It can't be moved.
- You have pension-type assets, IRAs, and fancy pension plans. No matter what, they are all subject to state or federal law.
SUBHEADING
- You have maybe commercial real estate is locked to the ground, and everything that is locked to the ground is treated differently than things that aren't locked to the ground.
- You might have intellectual property. That’s what this lightbulb represents. If you've got intellectual property, you must protect it.
- You probably have significant personal property, cars, jewelry, art, and things like that.
In this series, we'll talk about what to do with all of these should you ever come under attack.
Offshore Asset Protection Trust
If you have "more than you should", more than they think you should, and you do anything that they can torment you with a lawsuit with, you can count on being sued.
Also in the top right area of the diagram you have family - the beneficiaries there in the circle. You also have an estate planning obligation represented by the pen tip.
You might be utilizing domestic asset protection technology - defective that still is - your for real estate.
You have obligations to the Tax Man - the state and federal taxes and the other obligations for the services that governments that provide you (hopefully) like safety and to take care of you should you need it.
You have to pay for it, and this stimulates obligations and sometimes litigation... The huge amount of litigation is unique to the United States but not unseen in the rest of the world. You need to protect yourself and your assets from all those little red devil contingent fee litigators attempting to separate you from every penny you have.
